Overall Body/Oral health

Holistic Approach to Dentistry in Manchester NH

Your mouth is full of bacteria, many of them good for you! It's also important to remember that your mouth connects many systems in your body, including your respiratory and digestive tracts.

With proper oral hygiene like brushing and flossing, we can aid our natural defenses and keep bacterial under control. Poor oral hygiene often leads to bacterial levels that can result in gum disease, infection, or tooth decay.

Dry mouth from trauma, injury, or medications can limit saliva flow. Saliva is essential in washing away food particles and neutralizing acids that keep you healthy and safe from disease.

At Mann Family Dental, we want our Manchester patients to know how important their health is to us, even beyond the state of their teeth and gums. Every system in our body is connected, so if our mouth suffers, the rest of us does too.

How Oral Health Is Linked to Overall Health

Keeping your smile healthy is essential to your whole body health. Studies have linked your healthy and happy smile with good overall health.

At Mann Family Dental, we want our patients to understand the connection between the mouth and body. This knowledge allows us to redesign your treatment plan by taking in different variables, take care of plaque-buildup, and look for evidence of health concerns like heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity, and more.

When we find oral health issues, we think outside of the box by looking at your whole health and integrative techniques that go beyond traditional dental care.

Our Holistic Approach to Dentistry in Manchester

Many things are linked to oral health than many Manchester patients may know. Inflamed and swollen gums can mean that gum disease has settled. A poor diet can introduce many harmful bacteria that create an acidic and destructive environment for your teeth and gums. Other conditions are directly linked to heart disease or diabetes.

At Mann Family Dental, Dr. Russell Mann and his excellent team of dental professionals understand that when one system fails, it affects the effectiveness of the rest of your health. The U.S. Surgeon General has reported that more than 90 percent of systemic diseases that patients suffer from can be revealed through dentistry. Regular dental cleanings and exams allow us to identify and treat many dental issues to keep your body healthy.

How Your Mouth Affects the Rest of Your Body

Many of us know how important it is to prevent cavities or keep your gums from bleeding, but the importance goes far deeper. The effects of ignoring the link between your body and mouth include:
  • Bacteria from your mouth gets in your bloodstream and causes high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and more
  • Gum disease is linked to Alzheimer's, tooth loss, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer Bacteria from infected teeth can travel through the bloodstream to the lungs and cause respiratory disease, pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and more
